Guest Speaker, Rev. Dr. Scot Giles - “What Rasputin Believed”
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, who was murdered by those who objected to his politics in 1916, is an interesting historical figure. A Spiritual Director and Hypnotist of great renown, he influenced the politics of his day profoundly, while at the same time scaring people because of his libertine lifestyle. Despite all the good and ill that he did, there can be no doubt that he was also a person with a deep spiritual practice who had some insights that can help us today. Rasputin will be the unlikely focus of Dr. Giles’s sermon in the wake of Valentine’s Day.
The Rev. Dr. C. Scot Giles is a Hypnotic Health Coach, recognized nationally for his work. He has been an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister since 1981. He served Unity Temple in Oak Park from 1981 to 1991, and he has served as a Community Minister since 1993, affiliated with Countryside UU Church in Palatine. He is married to Rev. Dr. Lindsay Bates who served UUSG from 1978 to 2018 and now is our Minister Emerita. They live in Wheaton, IL.
